My car is haunted. That's all there is to it.

The alarm goes off now whenever I open the door. The horn honks, the headlights blink, and nothing I do can entice it to stop.

This started a half hour ago, when I pulled into a gas station to fuel up. It woke the attendant, but there fortunately weren't any houses for a full block or two.

So, it's 2:30am and my car horn won't stop honking. I can't go home, I can't call anyone for help. What do you do in a situation like that?

Lord only knows.

Lucky for me, I wasn't alone. Dave had enough mechanical knowledge to find and remove the appropriate fuse. No more horn. But the headlights are still blinking, even now.

I imagine the batteries will be drained by morning.

Now, here's the kicker: I took my car in to fix some battery problems a while back, and they ended up removing the alarm system. Seriously. They handed it to me. It's in a box somewhere.

To summarize:
Nothing triggered that alarm. Putting the key in ignition should have turned it off. Except it never should have turned on in the first place, because it wasn't physically within miles of my vehicle.

It's haunted.

No other explanation...

I really don't know the first thing about auto mechanics, so that's well beyond my ability to perform, much less reason out whether it's the right thing to do. I figure my next step is to take the car over to someone who understands such things, and have them look at it.

Don't apologize, though, unless you're the one who snuck into my car and installed an alarm on me.
(If that was you, don't expect forgiveness anytime soon)

You may be on to something.
I have been drifting in and out of consciousness lately...

Quick! Someone capture Freddy's spirit in a new story before he materializes in the real world.

...    !

Unrelated thoughts connect, and suddenly I'm watching Freddy Krueger pick off the cast of MTV's The Real World in my head. The confessionals between each death feel somewhat out of place.

Just as long as Puck from Real World San Francisco is the first to go...
