Can't say I like this.

My computer's been more or less stable for a few days now. And I got Photoshop running up to speed again, which made me very happy. Looks like the problems weren't related to each other after all, so addressing them one by one actually worked. Or so I thought.

Things were a little screwy last night. Windows were slow to pop up, software not terribly responsive. When it told me the system was out of memory, I figured I probably ought to reboot.

So, I hit the start button, clicked on "shut down," made sure "restart" was selected, and said okay. The system shut down and made no attempt to boot back up again. Looking at the time, I shrugged this off and went to bed.

Which brings us to this morning.

The first thing I noticed was that the computer's been moved. That's probably a coincidence, but a strange one nonetheless. This box is so heavy, I can try to move it and only succeed in swiveling my chair. Pretty sure there wasn't an earthquake, though. Maybe the dog thought I was storing food in there?

The second thing I noticed was that the computer no longer turns on automatically when power is applied to it. Hitting the power button or pressing space does the trick, but I never had to do that with this system before.

The third thing I noticed is that there's no video signal reaching either screen. The cards are still seated properly, and all cables are firmly attached. Don't know what to make of that.

Fourth and final, the computer isn't getting into Windows, with or without video. The fans turn on, the drives spin up, and after a minute or two, the computer powers down of it's own accord. Which means I won't be able to investigate from over the network, among other things.

I'm not sure what bothers me most out of all that, but I have a lot of work to do in a very short time, and I can't even get to the necessary files.

Perhaps I'll go back to sleep again.
