Ye gods, am I distracted.

Nephew came to visit. Ain't gettin' nothing done.

He's awful cute, though.

Question:
Why does it look like he's stuffed in a bag?

self: "Oh hello little nephew"
nephew: "Help me, I'm in a bright yellow bag"
self: "You are cute... yes you are"
nephew: "Understand, sir. I am STUCK in a yellow bag"
self: "Listen to the funny sounds he makes"
nephew: "Dimwit!"

Answer:
'cause he's stuffed in a bag.

That wasn't far off from the actual conversation, by the way.

Re: Answer:
Ooh! Fill the rest of us in. What were people saying about Self and his inimitable directorial style?

Re: Answer:
Ooohhh... I don't think I could do that.... But 'self' was mentioned as being probably one of the smartest people around.

's okay.
Post Mortem is an open forum where everyone gets to rat on each other without fear of consequences. The whole idea is that we're supposed to learn from it. I'd like to think the same things would have been said had I been there to hear them.

Feel free to repeat criticisms here if you don't think it would betray those who said them. There aren't likely any surprises. In fact, I could probably type up a fairly complete list and save you the trouble. (That's the downside of being "one of the smartest people around")

What sucked about not being there was that I missed the opportunity to respond to those criticisms. Some were valid, some required a snappy rebuttal, and some called for some serious explaining. (Willy in particular was operating with a false understanding of where I was coming from, and I would have corrected that earlier if it wasn't driving him crazy...)

Whatever. I'm really not thinking about the last set of one-acts anymore. They're in the past.

I'll try to post something new to talk about in the next day or two.

Re: Answer:
Do you have a scanner? Can ya scan in "Captive Audience" and e-mail it to me?

That would be... (gasp!) ...Copyright Violation!
I can't tell you how frustrating it is that my motherboard has rejected it's USB ports. There's a scanner sitting right here, but it doesn't do anything but disable the mouse...

There... my first post from my account...

Ummm... which motherboard? Which processor?
You said you're running Win98SE...

Details
Y'know.. I've really let things drift off topic.

Motherboard: ASUS P2B-DS (440BX chipset, dual processor, Ultra SCSI 2 onboard)
Processor: Intel Pentium II 450

The problem followed me over from Win2000, so I doubt very much that it's the operating system.

Adding a powered USB hub does nothing to fix the problem, but it does give me lights to stare at for troubleshooting. Any USB device which is not the mouse causes all USB ports to lose power.

I should also point out another system anomaly, since they're probably related: One of my soundcards is sucking away power through the MIDI cable. More so than allowed for in the MIDI standard. I've implimented a "temporary" workaround, involving a powered sound module laundering the signal.

Before you ask, it's a 300 Watt power supply. The soundcard in question is an AWE32, with a Waveblaster II daughtercard attached. It would not surprise me at all if removing this daughtercard fixes my USB. But I'd like to avoid messing with the card until I have an SBLive handy to replace it.
