self portrait (escher)

TMI in the Information Age

When I discover a new band I like, because something in their music stands out as being different from everything I'm listening to? My first action these days is to check what "other people who have bought this CD have also purchased." Within minutes, I have robbed that group of their distinctness by digging up a dozen bands that sound exactly like 'em. Whatever void that first one tapped into, this process fills beyond capacity.

So, yeah. Instant gratification without commitment apparently leaves a person wanting and empty. Who knew?
