The other day, I remember wondering what ever became of Natalie Imbruglia. She had a few hit singles, then disappeared off the face of the earth. I can't remember what prompted that thought, but let's just say there was a reasonable explanation for it, and move on.

So, mp3.com sends me a link to her new single this morning, and I figured I'd give it a listen. It was titled, appropriately enough, "wrong impression."

The drums are instantly familliar, and the guitar's tone sounds more or less on like her last album. But the chords are more complex - she never had this kind of harmonic dissonance before. Then the vocals come in, and I'm not sure if I would have recognized her voice without knowing ahead of time who I was listening to. The chords, the melody, the vocal style... They all scream out "Lisa Loeb." This song must have either been written by her, or written for her.

When the dust settled on that disconcerting realization, I started to wonder what ever became of Lisa Loeb. Turns out she's got a new album too, but I'm afraid to look into it in case she sounds like Bryan Adams now.

(And now I'm wondering what's become of Bryan Adams. Great...)

Rock the Vote

Elections are fun.

I said "no" to every proposition I didn't fully understand (for they all cost money regardless), and chose candidates based on how difficult it would be for the news agencies to spell or pronounce their names if they won. Except for District Attorney, where I went with an empty write-in candidate because I felt that both candidates should be kept equally far away from any real power.

Three cheers for the democratic process!
