New pet peeve

I just ordered something, and my shipping options ranged from $9 (arriving in 3-5 days) to $17 (arriving by 10:30 tomorrow morning). I went with the $12 option, getting it here by noon tomorrow. There was also a $4.50 handling fee, so I'm looking at $16.50 above and beyond the cost of this product, and 24 hours waiting time before it arrives.

That's all standard, I suppose. Except the product is data. I'm getting software delivered to me by hand, waiting for it's arrival, and paying through the nose because the distributor didn't give me the option of just downloading it.

I suppose I could have special-ordered the product through an outlet in Santa Monica, and drove out there when it arrives to save on shipping. But you have to figure if I'm worth no more than minimum wage, the shipping costs equal that driving time. So if my time has value beyond that, it's wasted on that trip.

No, if it's information I'm paying for, and I'm purchasing it over the web, there's really no way to justify this.
