a quick observation

It's difficult to clear up hard drive space when what it's full of is unfinished projects whose main obstacle to completion is that you've run out of hard drive space.

This same principal also holds true for organizing one's workspace, budget, or schedule.

I find that most of my problems come in parallel like this.

Yup.

But I can't afford those just now, so I'm juggling projects around the network, making room for one to clear it off for the next, and so forth...

Not sure which you're referring to, so...

the icon:
Yeah. I started making a friendlier version which was, printed in Lenticular, to be my entry for the Ventura County Fair. The technical idea was that it'd be three-dimensional, and rotate as you walk past with no visible break in continuity. Artistically, I was going to call it 'community' and leave people to their own interpretations. As envisioned, I'm confident it would have won.

This first draft kinda gave the wrong message, though. The second draft fixed the slack-jawed vacant-stare zombie aspect of it, and threw in some nifty eyeglasses, but it still wasn't what I was after. And then the deadline passed, so I moved on to other things.

I'll revisit this in a few months - I'm considerably better at building faces now than I was when I started, so the challenge of making seven in overlapping radial symmetry should be easier, at least.

In the meantime, this version makes a good icon for "endlessly going through the motions" or "you're all mindless drones" type comments, where I kind of want that disturbing vibe anyway.

I don't use that one very often.

(though, more often than the horrible crack monkey)

juggling projects around the network:
It's not so bad. But, I do feel a little stupid now - I had the whole house to myself for a while, and never once thought to make use of the other computers while their owners were away. The extra CPUs would have saved a lot of time.

Damn.
I was at Circuit City the day after Thanksgiving, and marvelled at the 250GB hard drives selling for $99 after rebates. Didn't have any money, though, so I didn't pick one up.
