It's not that complex.
    Any compiled list of e-mail addresses, no matter how reputable those holding it may be, is an act of evil waiting to happen. A corporation is not accountable for the actions of it's employees, and today's discretion policy might be thrown out with tomorrow's merger. Once violated, your privacy can never be restored. Registration is an act of trust, a leap of faith. It should never be compulsory.

    I wish this wasn't so.
But, yeah... When you send links to stories on the Star's website? I'm usually stopped at the gate, and that's where I lose interest.

The news I read comes mostly from subject-filtered aggregates these days -- it's just a better model, though I suppose neither way can sustain itself for too much longer. It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out.
