Ordered my copy of Dancing Barefoot, and in a rare moment of wisdom and clarity, threw a second copy on that order.

I like to loan my books away. And it's not often I see them returned. No big deal, usually - I've gone through several dozen copies of Ender's Game, and Ishmael's getting up there too. The difference is, those books are widely available. I can walk into any bookstore and replace 'em. Heck, even my out-of-print collection isn't so bad - used copies crop up online more often than they used to. But, when I have to special-order directly from the publisher, and it's their only current publication, this might not be available to restock later.

So, now I'm prepared. One of you can flake out, and it won't even phase me.

Who wants dibs?

Oooh!
I want. And I'm good about returning stuff like that (eventually...).

Done!
Just need to send it out your way, once it arrives here...

(Hey, you've read Evan Dorkin's "Batman and Superman: Worlds Funniest" Elseworlds novel, right? If not, I'll have to send that too - you're one of the few people I know who'd even get half the jokes.)

Cool.
Look forward to it.

(Yes, I have. Some really funny moments here and there, but wasn't satisfying overall for some reason...)

...and time drags on.
Handed the book to technomonkey to give you, but he figured you weren't going to see each other until he gets back from Canada, so it's up there with him. Dibs just ain't what they used to be.

Would probably have been faster to wait for the second copy, but I keep forgetting to let the man know it never came. (we were giving it a week just in case, but then that became three...)

...and on.
Yeah. A little frustrated at that one, because I did actually see him, but the book had been packed in lightways' suitcase, and of course, once it's packed, you can't get it back out...

heh.
He is big with the unilateral decision making.

Do you know if he packed "Dreamer"? That's another one you're going to want to read, if he ever gets through it.

Oh come on!
You know the extra copy has to go to me... if it doesn't disappear here, it won't. You give it to Dave you'll get it back, that's what the first copy is for... the second one needs to find a black hole. :)

He called dibs.
Please. If I wanted a guaranteed black hole, I'd shelve it alphabetically and say the magic words "There! Now I can't possibly lose it."

Besides, everything I ever loaned you is in plain sight - you're just blind to it. ;)
